Age Verification on Social Media Platforms

Discord adds a new honeypot for attackers with age verification on their platform. This leads to discussions, since we know that age verification checks are either not privacy friendly or can be circumvented easily. Then we have several countries in Europe which are banning Social Media platforms for teens.

Discord Adds Age Verification

Hackers warn that Discord's push toward stricter safety controls is colliding with a familiar truth: when platforms build barriers, users look for ways around them, and attackers look for ways in.

Notepad Vulnerability

Don't add features to software which is not broken. Windows didn't listen and added a feature with a vulnerability (as a feature of course).

Germany's BSI Recommendations

The Federal Office for Information Security recommends new encryption methods from 2032 onwards.

Tip of the Week

There are many ways to get passwords wrong.

Not only on the user side, but also on the platform itself. A secure alternative is to use passkeys. If possible, use passkeys instead of a password to authenticate yourself on a platform. Here is a great video from Computerphile that explains exactly what passkeys are and how they work.

Forward this to a friend who cares about online security.
